The clock showed a blaring 3:00 AM when Brie finally entered her home. She set Lavrynth on his resting place, closing the glass top on the case. As she did so, a low grumbling sigh erupted before he found sleep. Her hand moved to rub the tired out of her eyes, her fingers running over the scar the sliced under her eye. She pulled off of her trench coat, the removal of the weight sending a chill of relief on her shoulders. The trench found it's placement on the coat hanger, while her shoes were placed under it. The atmosphere around her home was quite stange. She felt a strange air around her, as if a a disturbance was upon her. Her eyes moved over her things, checking for movement before checking all of her the rooms. She found nothing, her fatigue from the day's hunt causing her to think little of her gut feeling to stay up and wait it out. Instead, she slid into her room and found a loose shirt to throw on. She waved her hand, the faerie fire around the cave suddenly going black. Her eyes glowed ominously in the dark, her pupils adjusting to see clearly. She slid into her bed onto her right side. Her back pressed against the cold stone wall while her hand pulled a pillow into her. It wasn't long before she was asleep, a strange frost crawling over her skin. Her breath was shallow, her chest barely raising as she slumbered. Hours passed, but the clock no longer seemed to show the correct time. It flashed 12:00 as if the power had gone off as Brie slept. She stirred in her sleep, her back cracking and her yawn soon following. By this point, her room should be a lit with a wash of gray light. Instead, she awoke to find the room darker than when she had fallen asleep. She sat up, her feet swinging off the bed. The temperature had raised, the frost that had once covered her now melting into a light water. She rose off the bed, her shirt falling around her loosely. When she walked into her front room, a warm wind pressed into her body. Brie was paranoid, her memory wandering to last night's strange feeling.Something strange caught her eye- her belongings were gone. She rushed over to Lavrnyth's case as her heart began to race. Her armor, her weapons, Lavrynth, were missing. She pressed her back into the wall, knowing that at least no one could come from behind her. What was strange though, was that Lavrynth couldn't leave her side. They had a special bond from Brie's past, and if he was seperated from her, his ill will would devour the thief. So, why was he missing? She felt utterly alone, her chest now raising and falling in panicked breaths. That's when the screams began. The large downhill path leading to her home erupted in an army of chaos. Brie pressed harder into the wall, sweat suddenly dripping off of her skin. The temperature was boiling, the usual -400 degree cave had risen to steamy 112. Brie couldn't take the heat, she wasn't equipped to stand hot temperatures. Her hand raised to create an icy case, some protection, something, but her powers were defensless in this heat. The screams grew closer and closer still. Echoes of claws eroding the stone ground and barks of ghastly animals drew near. Brie drew in a hot breath and held it. A strong gust of wind blew in, the heat unimaginable to an ice elemental. She fell to her knees, her hands landing before her face hit the floor. She felt her heart beating too rapid, her breath ragged, her eyes stinging. The screams wrapped around her in a hurricane of wrath and isolation. She was clawing at the ground, trying to drag herself out, her mouth drying in the heat. The screams soared in her pain as terror and adrenaline filled her veins. Brie drug herself the distance to the entrance of the corridor, her finger tips ripping open and oozing blood. As her hand reached into the hallway to find an escape, her scream rippled out of her chest. Her cry was a raw call of pain as flames licked at her skin. As her scream ended, the whirlwind of laughter and taunts faded into the walls. The room drew silent. Brie collpased onto her back as she felt her pumping blood grow slower and slower. Brie's tongue slipped between her lips, trying to wetten the chapped cracks. Her scream had caused a tearing pain through out her throat, tears streaming out of her eyes. As her tears fell out, they steamed off of her skin and left trails of burn marks. "Please.." was the one word she could crack out, the air feeling like sand slicing at her lungs. Her eyes were growing glossy as a laugh bellowed. A man stood before her, his smile a row of sharpened teeth. They were a glistening white, his eyes the purest of reds. He was dressed head to toe in black, his skin ragged in burns. He had no hair as if he had been charred in a fire, but not enough to take a huamnly appearance away. Brimstone dripped off of his fingers, while he walked around Brie. "We meet again." passed hoarsely through his lips. Brie watched the ceiling fade from her eyesight, her breath getting caught and her cough roughly pushing out. Brie felt the pressure of her breath leave her chest and the skip of her heart warn of what was to come. Her tears had stopped just as her struggle ended. And then, nothing.

And then, Brie shot up hard, her scream ripping out of her throat in a disturbing strength. She stumbled out of her bed, the rush of cold filling her veins. She was crying hard, her tears forming ice droplets and shattering onto the ground. "Just a dream, just a dream..." kept repeating in her head. She looked around her room to gather her bearings, her breath slowly returning to normal. "It was just a dream." ran across her lips, her eyes flashing to the clock. It showed that is was already one in the afternoon. Brie laughed nervously, an ache on her hands. She looked down to see them still bloody and tattered. Her eyebrows pulled in confusion, looking over her shirt at the burn marks. She pushed herself off the ground, shakily walking to the front room. Lavrynth sat undisturbed, her armor was just as it was, and the atmosphere had settled. Things were fine. Brie turned to the corridor and held her breath at a tattered paper stuck to the exit. Slowly, she approached. Scribed in Akrine's language was something that sent a strange pulse of heat up her spine. "Even the strongest of warriors fall, even they are killed in their most peaceful of times. You felt the flame of your own demons, your own past. Now, tell me, daughter, who's really the strongest of all?" Brie's heart sank, the paper flashing white ane scribing one last thing. "Love always, your dear father." The paper erupted in flames as Brie snapped her hands away. She collapsed against the couch, feeling just alone as she had in her night terror. She sliced the air with her hand out of anger, sending shards of ice at the wall. However, something strange happened- the shards began as water. Bewildered, she held her hand out to draw an orb of ice. It began as water before it froze into a sphere. The flame of last night had scarred her mind, but it also seemed to have given her a gift of possesing water as an elemental. Before, anything ice or cold related could be morphed under her hand in reason. Now, though, it seemed that water had been earned as a gift. Brie found herself moving towards the bathroom to wash away the smell of sweat and blood. She wanted to forget last night. Although her new development in power was huge, she was highly stressed and weak. As the water began, Brie stared into the mirror, a flashback from her childhood pulling on her attention. And as always, Brie pushed it away. She found security in the cold of the water, her mind blank as she healed in the cold. She refused to think of what happened and kept her mind at bay. It wasn't new that she had night terrors, but this was different."I felt myself die, but did I really? And the note..." Brie snapped the thoughts away, and began making a list of her daily activities. "Just a dream," slipped across her lips one last time as she drowned out her thoughts with the pitter patter of water.
